The Grand Palace

Bangkok’s most famous landmark is the Grand Palace, dating from 1782, when the city was founded as the nation’s capital, and for 150 years the home of the Thai monarch, the royal court, and the administrative seat of government. No longer a royal residence, the Palace remains the spiritual heart of the Kingdom and is used for royal ceremonies and auspicious gatherings. An enormous complex that in its time was almost a self-contained city, the Grand Palace contains exquisite examples of Thai architecture.
